Jason Rutter graduated from Grand Valley State University in the winter of 2007 with a degree in photography. While attending college he worked as a darkroom assistant for photographer David Plowden. The time he spent working with Plowden greatly influenced his photographic career by being a teacher of the process and a mentor of ideas. His personal work has taken on several themes and directions ranging from documentaries about Michigan farms, industrial sites at night, and images dealing with the natural landscape. Several of his projects have been on exhibition, while other selected works exist in collections by members of the West Michigan community. He is currently a full time photography technician for the School of Communications.
